The American Cemetery

The American Cemetery contains the remains of over 17,000 allied soldiers who died in Asia during WWII. Visitors first go to the reception area immediately inside the gate, then continue past picturesque concentric circles and undulating lines of white grave markers.

A memorial in the center lists the names and states of 36,000 who were killed or missing in action. Excellent mosaics in each hall depict battle areas in the Pacific.

The cemetery, supported by the US War Graves Commission, is a quiet refuge. An oasis amidst the concrete jungle of Makati, it contains most of the few remaining acacia and flame trees that until a few years ago were found in abundance in the area. Open 8-5 daily.
