Ati-Atihan Festival

Ati-Atihan focuses on the legend of the sale of Panay by the Aetas (Negritoes) to Bornean Datu's. Every year colorful reenactmens of the Negritoes swapping their land for trinkets and gold are performed.

Costumes range from traditional to modern, artistic to outrageous. Participants blacken their faces to resemble the Negritoes, who also come to partake in the fun. Everyone joins the festivites and nobody knows how much alcohol is consumed.

Many other areas have copied this raucous festival, but in a more ordered way--it isn't quite the same!

***A note of advice: make all your reservations (acomodations & flights) months in advance!
